For a unique exercise that is guaranteed to build strength without weights, nothing is better than Hindu squats and Hindu pushups. These exercises came out of India and have long been one of the main bodyweight training exercises of Indian wrestlers.
- Hindu squats are called bethaks
- Hindu pushups are referred to as dands.
These exercises have recently become popular thanks to Matt Furey's workout series Combat Conditioning. Most of this guys training routines are extremely hyped, more so than they should be, but nonetheless they offer excellent training tips once you make it through the crap.
Hindu exercises are perfect for building speed, power, strength, and endurance, all without any weights. They should ideally be done with a high amount of reps, and I'm a firm believer in the “reps to failure” type of workout, where you do one set of as many reps as you can before you reach failure.That's what it takes to get real strength without weights.
